When CAMRA approached Oxinet in December 2001, they had a unique set of requirements. Their existing website had been developed over a number of years, by volunteers and the several thousand pages were becoming very hard to keep track of.
On top of this, they had a requirement for a few hundred mini-sites for their branch offices, and a membership database of approximately 65,000 which they would like to connect to the website to give a personalised experience.
Their experiment with online shopping using a BT service had not been successful, and they wanted to centralise their hosting, management and support functions.
Using the InQuire2 content management system, the site was ported in two months, with the membership database going online two months later on. Traffic to the website immediately tripled in volume, and the new shopping system (using Actinic Catalogue software) was an immediate success, allowing CAMRA to take new membership subscriptions online for the first time.
Perhaps the greatest success was during the Great British Beer Festival in August 2002 when the mini-site dedicated to this event received over half a million page hits in four days.
The CAMRA site is hosted and managed by Oxinet in our Oxford hosting facility, and the content is maintained by CAMRA staff from their HQ in St. Albans.
